Cycleboard Review: The Coolest Electric Scooters

Kick scooters have been around since the first time being introduced in the US and Europe - about 100 years ago.

Beginning as simple a-plank-and-wheels arrangements, they have evolved into various sizes and shapes, from electric-powered bulky commuters to lightweight, portable stunt scooters and everything in between. An eminent specimen is the 3-wheeled CycleBoard.

Since scooters from this brand are so hot currently, we’ve decided to let today’s topic be the CycleBoard review, breaking down all of its advantages and disadvantages based on our own experience using the devices.

What Does Cycleboard Have To Provide?

CycleBoard offers two types of e-boards besides other essential accessories:

  • one for mixed or street terrains - the Rover
  • and one for grass and turf terrains - the Golf.

Generally, both share many features in common and can move on most ordinary pavements, except the motor size and hill-climbing ability.

We bought the Rover and have tested it on various terrains. First, let’s take a closer look at the major pros and cons our scooter riders have noticed when maneuvering the CycleBoard.

Pros

pros

The key advantage that we realized on the first day using this power e-board was great ease of use. It arrived neatly folded and fully assembled.

We could unpack it easily without any difficulty and were ready to go in a few hours (since we had to wait for the lithium-ion battery to charge up).

There’s a brake on the left of the handlebars and a trigger throttle on the right - that’s pretty straightforward. The trickiest part to get used to is that the handlebars don’t steer the scooter.

You’ll need to lean toward the direction you’re going to turn. The faster you go, the further you have to push your body toward. Those having experience in surfing, snowboarding, or skateboarding will get familiar with it more quickly than new riders.

The manufacturer has incorporated a brushless, direct-drive 60v-1800W motor into the Rover, making it the most powerful scooter that we’ve experienced. As we accelerate rapidly or climb hills, we can feel the significant torque supporting our vehicle.

The beauty is that, despite being extra powerful, the motor is surprisingly silent even when we raise the speed up to the maximum rate - 27 MPH. However, we don’t think new riders will find themselves reaching the highest speed or power level very often.

On the contrary, seasoned riders will have plenty of power to use and all the thrills to enjoy on this electric thing. We witnessed a member in our team literally flying into the air when accessing the peak of a hill!

Give it a nice ramp, and the Rover will perform launching power.

Another prominent strength the Rover possesses is the extraordinary stability. Even when surfing at the top speed, this vehicle still feels extremely sturdy. The 8.5 x 41-inch deck also supports us with great grip purchase; thus, it’s quite hard to tip over on this e-board.

Despite not being lightweight, the even weight distribution makes it easier to move on dirt pavements. Golfers can even bring this on the course provided the trial doesn’t have too thick turf.

There’s no three-wheel braking, yet you do get three-wheel suspension. Though it is not extremely long travel suspension, something is better than nothing.

However, remember that you need to be extra careful when taking bumps at an angle. When we passed over irregularities, like street gutters, at an angle, we realized that it’s very essential to go quick enough to prevent the front wheels from starting bump-steering.

The best idea is to plan ahead what tricky sections you’re going to deal with and note how you’ll tackle them. This way, you can prepare yourself and your vehicle for the best performance.

A fantastic feature of this electric scooter’s trike design is that, unlike a standard product, we don’t have to place our feet down at stops for stability - all we do is just remain on the deck.

The note here is that the Rover needs to move so that the throttle works. Thus, even if the light is green, keep one of your feet down to provide it with a kick.

Cons

cons

The biggest downside for choosing this vehicle is that it is very heavy which makes it far from an ideal choice for carrying on a car. Indeed, an electric skateboard should be a convenient alternative to usual scooters and is not supposed to be that bulky.

Yeah, it can fold for effortless storage which may make it seem easier to transfer to a car’s trunk. But, you can’t simply pick this 83-lbs machine up and toss it around even when folded.

Regarding nimble urban navigation in a bike lane, we still prefer a light electric skateboard there.

Also, the heavy design makes it more challenging for us to weave around objects when riding the Rover. Particularly for those who have just switched from a traditional two-wheeler to a three-wheel device, it’ll be even more difficult.

What’s more? We’d say stopping this thing takes us more time to learn than driving and moving it as that single-rear is not as strong as we’d expect.

Though a hydraulic disc brake is theoretically powerful since it features regenerative braking, too, the physics of rear-wheel braking means that it can never provide much stopping power.

You can come to a stop just fine, yet three-wheel braking would cut a few feet off the stopping distance.

It’s universally agreeable that riding the CycleBoard Rover is the most exciting thing. However, as fun as it is, the $2159 price tag is never a factor to be looked over for many buyers.

But looking on the bright side, you’re paying for the most advanced technologies and features you can find on today’s electric scooters. All of these are simply reflected in the cost!

Also, it’s the era of online shopping and digital coupons now. You totally can add a CycleBoard discount code to your online order to make the price no longer an obstacle between you and your favorite scooter.

What do people have to say about Cycleboard?

customer feedback

Most customers are happy with the feel the Rover brings: it’s like surfing on the streets! The unique steering system and three-wheel robust design make it a really worthwhile deal.

Both the Golf and Rover have received positive feedback about their stability and even weight distribution, helping riders go on-grass and off-road easily.

customer review

Notably, what makes many buyers go bananas is the Rover’s single-rear hub motor which can spit out 800 watts of power - enough to cruise up moderately steep hills and aggressively carve from side to side without losing speed.

The giant power, along with the broad range of speed rates, takes the rider onto grassy trails, dirt areas, and off the streets with thrills!

feedback

After a while reading customer reviews about this electric scooter for the road, we’ve seen some comments complimenting a feature that we actually don’t realize but can’t agree more: the wide yet not too high speed rate range makes this personal electric vehicle an excellent option for commuting down side streets and keeping up with the flow of traffic

Besides, customers are pretty content with the integration of the battery. The battery is housed inside the deck, staying safe from dirt and debris. Also, this placement keeps the center of gravity low and increases stability even further. Users can swap it out without much effort.

comment

As we said, most skaters also admit that the Rover is a costly purchase. But this is a unique electric scooter that provides the rider with an incredibly fun, and more importantly, incredibly stable ride experience.

The Verdict

As experienced riders who’ve tried many types of e-scooters, we believe the Rover is an excellent choice for those seeking a thing that can get them from point A to point B in style while maintaining stability.

Especially, if you’re an adventurous rider who prefers exploring various pavements around your neighborhood and further to anything else, don’t waste time searching anywhere! Your desired vehicle is right here!

You’re going to pay handsomely, yes! But if it's for that innovation, high power, and long-range features, you don’t have to think twice!
